History

The Extra Mile program began at the start of the 2006-07 school year through a blend of funds from the Circleville City School District in partnership with the Pickaway County Job and Family Services (TANF.) The primary objectives were established and are still upheld to this day.
  • Help students improve their mathematics skills.
  • Help students improve their reading skills.
  • Help them develop socially through service learning activities.
Extra Mile is currently funded through a federal 21st Century Community Learning Center grant. This is a second round five year grant (currently in the 4th year) that provides resources for programming and staffing needs.

Ohio Achievement Test tutoring is also an initiative that is operated through the Extra Mile program. Certified Teachers use material supplied by the Ohio Department of Education to train our students not only in the content material (mathematics, reading, science) but also the skill of test taking in and of itself.

Summer Intervention is also operated as a 21st Century Community Learning Center. Kindergarten through 8th grade students are permitted to attend a three week session including hands on lessons based on Ohio Academic Standards.

In addition to Extra Mile Circleville City Schools is able to offer a High School program also funded through  a federal 21st Century Community Learning Center grant. This is a second round grant (currently in the 2nd year of a 3 year grant cycle) that provides resources for programming and staffing needs.

Students have the opportunity to earn credits toward graduation, develop career skills and build a portfolio to aid in  his or her job search.
